Original Toll House Cookies

  1. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Combine the butter or shortening, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and 1/2 teaspoon water.
  4. Beat until creamy.
  5. Beat in the eggs.
  6. Add the flour mixture and mix well.
  7. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.
  8. Drop by well-rounded half teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
