Original Toll House Cookies
- 2 1/4 cups sifted flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup softened butter or shortening
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- water
- 2 eggs
- 12 oz chocolate chips
- 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts
- Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Set aside.
- Combine the butter or shortening, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and 1/2 teaspoon water.
- Beat until creamy.
- Beat in the eggs.
- Add the flour mixture and mix well.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.
- Drop by well-rounded half teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
